GLASGOW INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL

Magners Irish Cider is the new title sponsor of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival – Britain’s biggest comedy festival. The event will now be known as the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

Magners comes on board as planning for the fifth festival is well underway. Already Britain’s comedy wunderkind Russell Brand has been signed up and tickets are now on sale for Jimmy Carr and Glasgow’s own Frankie Boyle.

The Festival is organised by StandOut Comedy, Scotland’s principle comedy agency, which has links to the long-running Stand Comedy Clubs in Glasgow and Edinburgh. StandOut’s Tommy Sheppard said: “We’re delighted to have Magners on board. The brand fits well with the Festival’s character and ambition. This is and exciting new deal and we look forward to building a strong relationship. The Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival is the biggest event of its kind in the UK and we know it can be bigger still”

Magners has a considerable pedigree in promoting stand-up comedy through a long association with a similar Festival in Dublin, which has grown to become one of the most popular events held in Ireland.

Joanne Hayden, GB Marketing Manager for Magners, said: “ Magners was introduced to Scotland in 2003, the same year that the Glasgow International Comedy Festival was launched. Both brands have grown to become leaders in their field. This new sponsorships provides us with a platform from which we can demonstrate our continued commitment behind the Scottish market and to recruiting new consumers.”

The full programme for the Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival will be launched on Thursday 18 January 2007.
