Record level of entries for the 2009 magners scottish golf clubs championship...

But there is still time to enter.

Record numbers of Golf Clubs from all over Scotland have registered to take part in the 2009 Magners Scottish Golf Clubs Championship.

After attracting more than 22,000 golfers in 2008, the championship is now the fastest growing and most popular club golf championship in Scotland.

Last year’s winners from Newmachar Golf Club near Aberdeen, Alan Walker and Bryan Robson will defend their title after receiving automatic entry to the regional finals.

Alan said:

"Last year, Bryan and I were delighted to win the Magners Golf Championship – we had a great day and the courses we played on were tough but really enjoyable. This tournament is a great addition to the calendar for club golfers - the level of play and the great courses made it a really challenging championship."

Magners is a strong supporter of club golf in Scotland and a recent hole-in-one initiative helped to further that support. Eight golfers across the country achieved a hole-in-one during the weekend of the Summer Solstice earning them each a case of new Magners Pear – an added bonus to their celebration.

Ambassador for the Championship, Scottish Tour Professional, Lloyd Saltman is impressed by how many clubs are actively taking part in amateur events like the Magners Scottish Golf Club Championship, he said:

"This is really encouraging for club golf in Scotland when you see just how many clubs are becoming involved in more and more amateur competitions."
"Its important to maintain a decent level of competitive play and enthusiasm throughout golf clubs – its also a great way to showcase the talented club golfers from our home country. I look forward to meeting the successful players later in the year at the finals."
