LLOYD SALTMAN TEES OFF FOR MAGNERS
Magners Irish Cider has appointed Scottish Tour Professional Lloyd Saltman as Ambassador for the 2008 Magners Scottish Golf Clubs Championship.
Following the success of last year's event which attracted more than 20,000 club golfers, Magners has introduced a fifth regional final to allow students to participate - making this event one of the fastest growing and most popular in Scotland.
The Magners Scottish Golf Championship will be open to every male club golfer in Scotland. Each club in Scotland will be able to register one qualifying tournament at their club between 1st April and 31st July, where the two best golfers will progress to one of five Regional Finals. The Regional Finals will be held at Stirling Golf Club; Inchmarlo Golf Club; Kilmalcolm Golf Club; Crieff Golf Club; and West Linton Golf Club.
The two golfers representing their club at the regional finals will play as a pair (two ball better ball, one score to count at each hole), and the top 6 pairs from each regional final will qualify for the Magners Grand Final at The Carrick at the start of October. The winning pair at the Grand Final will be crowned the Magners Scottish Golf Champions 2008, and win a fabulous golfing break in Ireland.
Lloyd Saltman said: 'Having played in many similar events before turning professional, I know how much fun and how competitive they can be. This new Magners event is a great addition to the calendar for club golfers and I'm looking forward to joining the finalists at The Carrick in October.'
Jules Macken, Magners GB Brand Manager, said: 'Magners has been a supporter of amateur golf in Scotland since the brand was first introduced here in 2003, building on the brand's long association with golf in Ireland. Magners and golf are a perfect fit and the brand has a strong presence in Golf Clubs where the iconic pint bottle and ice are enjoyed by golfers after completing their round.
'Feedback from club golfers all over Scotland was very strong last year and we've already had calls asking about this year's event, it's definitely a popular addition to the golfing calendar in Scotland. The introduction of the regional final for students will add a different dimension this year.
'We want to build on the success enjoyed last year and hope that more than 300 of the clubs in Scotland will participate. This would mean that around 24,000 club golfers could potentially enter the championship. This would make our event one of Scotland's biggest nationally recognised participation golf events.'
